Core: What We Major On
We are Desperate for Jesus.
This is the foundation of who we are at the core. It is our aim to be people in pursuit of Jesus. Everything we are, every song we sing, every step we take is by and for Jesus. We are not merely intrigued by Jesus; we are desperate for Him.
We are a City Church
Cities are gathering places of diversity. We want to be a church that reflects the diversity of Bakersfield. We believe that Jesus is the unifying force that brings together people of different races, economic statuses, and geographies. It is our goal to unify around the One who created and redeemed all things.
We Pursue the Lost
Jesus pursued us, and commissioned us to pursue the lost. We will do anything short of sin in order to connect people with Christ.
We are Disciples Who Grow
All relationships get better or bitter. We believe that your relationship with Christ is no different. We want to continue to grow as disciples of Christ through every season of our lives.
Code: How We Do It
All In or Not at All
Jesus is clear that if we want to follow Him we can, but to do so comes at a high cost. Plainly this means we can’t serve Christ half-way.
Invest and Invite
We believe that in order to live a great life, we must be about what the Bible calls great. For us, “investing” is about our wholehearted love of God overflowing into our interaction with and love for our neighbors (the Great Commandment). Finally, “invite” is about us making disciples by extending the invitation for them to come with us as we follow Christ.
This is a Race
Life is short, and no one makes a great impact without great focus on the main thing. We want to live life in pursuit of what matters most -- Jesus. For us, all of life is about knowing Jesus and making Him known to everyone along the way.
Shoulder to Shoulder and Shield to Shield
Working with people is difficult, yet the Church is supposed to be a place where people unite together for a greater purpose. Unfortunately, many of the walls that divide us outside the Church remain dividers within. We believe that Jesus Christ is a bigger unifier than anything that could ever divide us. We rally shoulder to shoulder to live for the fame of Christ. Additionally, the idea of shield to shield is our commitment to honor each other every step of the way.
You need the Church, and the Church needs you. The Bible is clear that the Church is all about one thing, but the Church is made up of many people. Anyone Christ calls to Himself, He in turn calls them to be one with His bride (the Church). Practically, we each have gifts that we must use in order for the bride of Christ to reach its full potential. Everybody paddles is our code statement to remind us that we each have a responsibility and part to play at Hingepoint Church.
A member is someone who has been saved by Christ and is called to Hingepoint Church.
A member is someone who is a disciple and is constantly pursuing growth in their relationship with God.
A member is someone who wants to serve and not sit. The best way for you to quickly get plugged into the community of the church is to serve with fellow believers.
A member is someone who wants to live in community.
Give (live generously)
A member is someone who wants to give to and not just receive from Hingepoint Church. We ensure this with 5 principles:
We give joyfully.
We give prayerfully.
We give sacrificially.
We give consistently.
We give generously.
